popular tourist attraction, which boasts many artistic and cultural
gems. It is famous for its numerous villas and palaces (such as
Villa Olmo, Villa Serbelloni and Villa Carlotta).

The lake is shaped much like the
character "Y". The northern branch begins at the town of Colico,
while the towns of Como and Lecco sit at the ends of the south
western and south eastern branches respectively. The small towns of
Bellagio, Menaggio and Varenna, known as "the Golden Triangle"are
situated at the intersection of the three branches of the lake: a
boat service operates between them.
The area boasts impressive scenery,
with mountains rolling down to the water's edge, and while the
summer months are hot it is often still possible to see snow on the
peaks of the mountains across the lake.
